Position Summary
Reporting to University Marketing and Communications (UMC's) Senior Creative Director, the Assistant Creative Director plays a vital role in Fordham University's Marketing and Communications team by leading a talented photography and videography team in crafting compelling visual stories.
This role is a hybrid player-coach position, requiring a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in multimedia production. The Assistant Creative Director oversees all aspects of photography and videography, from project planning and pre-production to capture, post-production, and delivery, ensuring that every asset embodies Fordham's brand experience principles. This work spans diverse channels, including web, social media, email, digital advertising, and national broadcast campaigns.
As a creative leader within UMC, the Assistant Creative Director manages and inspires a high-performing multimedia team while maintaining hands-on involvement in the division's most strategic projects. The role requires a deep understanding of visual storytelling and the ability to translate the University's brand strategy into impactful visual content. Collaboration is a cornerstone of success in this position, as the Assistant Creative Director works closely with UMC leadership, strategists, storytellers, project managers, and stakeholders to deliver projects that are on-brand, on-scope, on-time, and on budget.
Exceptional technical expertise in shooting and post-production is essential for this role. The Assistant Creative Director must possess advanced photography, videography, editing, and asset delivery skills to ensure the highest production quality across all projects. Additionally, this leader must be able to coach and elevate the creative sensibilities of their team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Through mentorship and hands-on collaboration, the Assistant Creative Director will guide the team in refining their craft, pushing creative boundaries, and achieving new levels of excellence.
The Assistant Creative Director, Multimedia, leads the rollout, adoption, and optimization of Fordham's Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform. This includes working closely with the creative and multimedia teams, project management, and University stakeholders to establish operational best practices, streamline workflows, and drive engagement with the DAM as the central repository for marketing assets.
By combining leadership, creativity, and technical expertise, the Associate Creative Director is pivotal in advancing Fordham University €™s brand storytelling and marketing efforts.
Essential Functions
- Oversees all aspects of multimedia production, from pre-production to delivery, ensuring alignment with Fordham University's brand experience principles.
- Collaborates with UMC leadership, project managers, and stakeholders to deliver projects that are on-brand, on-scope, on-time, and on-budget.
- Pursues and cultivates contacts within the University who can partner with the team on casting, coordinating locations, permissions, and scheduling.
- Translates brand strategy into impactful visual storytelling across various channels, including web, social media, and broadcast.
- Shoots, edits, and post-produces while coaching team members to apply these technical skills.
- Leads the rollout and optimization of Fordham €™s Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform, developing best practices for its use.
- Promotes DAM as a key resource for marketers and communicators, ensuring broad engagement and effective asset utilization.

Additional Functions
- Stays current with industry trends and innovations, incorporating them into team workflows and training.
- Provides strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in key projects.
- Leads the development and execution of enterprise-wide marketing initiatives, including national brand campaigns.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Bachelor €™s degree in film and media, multimedia production, design, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in multimedia production, visual storytelling, and/or creative leadership roles.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Proven expertise in photography and videography, including technical skills and creative direction.
- Working knowledge of animation and motion graphic design.
- Strong leadership and project management abilities, with experience managing creative teams and large-scale projects.
- Knowledge of brand strategy and the ability to translate it into compelling multimedia content.
- Familiarity with digital asset management systems and best practices.
- Understanding of Fordham's design guidelines, including an eye for typographic consistencies, color palettes and color correction.
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in film and media, multimedia production, design, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience developing multimedia principles in support of a new brand and evolving brand platform.
Minimum Starting Salary: $85,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $115,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
