Instructional Support Technician

Description of Responsibilities:

This position supports and maintains advanced technology classrooms and instructional resources for the SUNY Oswego campus community. Responsibilities include day-to-day classroom and event support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. The role ensures that all CTS media, projection, and switching equipment perform to standards. The work schedules will include both daytime and evening shifts, with some variation during the week. All roles may involve occasional after-hours and weekend support for campus events, as well as travel to our Syracuse campus.

Primary Responsibilities and Activities
  • Coordinate and oversee preventative maintenance of Advanced Technology Classrooms and documentation of work performed.
  • Assist in assembling, modifying, and/or installing new equipment, such as podium infrastructure, TVs, projectors, lecture capture cameras, etc.
  • Hands-on and remote troubleshooting for room systems that include projection, microphones, cameras, and desktop PCs and laptops
  • Overall Classroom support includes assisting faculty and students with accessing equipment and applications.
  • Assist in the staffing of the Lanigan "Core" support desk phone and assist faculty and others in using instructional technology in ATCs at the main campus and by providing remote support to SUNY Oswego at Syracuse and OBCR Downtown.
  • Document and follow up on incident tickets (TeamDynamix) and catalog tasks specifically assigned.
  • Interact effectively with other personnel within the Campus Technology Service teams in order to provide users with a high quality of service, as well as, present a professional presence to vendors, faculty, administration, staff, and students.
  • Expand and develop technical skills and procedures in support of systems for improved installations and speedy but thorough resolution of problems.
  • Assist with support, set-up, and striking for special events such as Commencement, College Council, Admissions Open Houses, Webcasting, and other high-profile events as requested.
  • Install newly imaged or re-imaged desktop computers in the ATCs.
  • Research and make recommendations for replacements of classroom A/V equipment as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • An associate's degree or higher at the time of hire with a minimum of one year of professional AV/IT experience.
  • Hands-on experience installing, operating, and troubleshooting AV systems, particularly digital video projection and AV control systems.
  • Experience with classroom AV buildouts which includes installation, wiring, program installation, cable management, full functionality testing, and training end-users as needed.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Troubleshooting digital displays and projectors

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CTS, Certified Technology Specialist, AVIXA
  • Hands-on experience with Crestron and Extron Control System Tools
  • Experience with Zoom and Panopto video teleconferencing and recording.
  • Experience using support and ticketing tools such as Bomgar and TeamDynamix
  • Hands-on experience with digital signage applications and hardware
  • Understanding of ITIL concepts and/or ITIL Foundations certification
