About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Experiential Learning & Career Advising develops and implements strategic initiatives involving a broad array of university constituents at Northeastern University's Oakland campus and across the network, designed to enhance community partnerships, design experiential learning opportunities and deliver best in class career preparation. The Associate Director of Experiential Learning & Career Advising provides daily operational management and oversight, participates in planning, implementing, executing, evaluating career and experiential learning services and supports the growth and scaling odf experiential learning engagement for students on the Oakland campus.
The Associate Director of Experiential Learning & Career Advising supports service-learning courses, community engaged research, co-op development and other experiential learning opportunities with curricular objectives. This position serves as a leader and liaison to college leaders in both Oakland and Boston and develops relationships with community stakeholder partners for career and experiential learning. The Associate Director may also provide support and coordination for courses, operations, programs, resources, and services in the Northeastern University ecosystem and provides direct career advising services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree plus 4-6 years of academic administrative experience required or Master's degree plus 3 years of career coaching, workforce development and partnership engagement.
- Comprehensive knowledge of career development theories and practices, including career assessment and employer job development.
- Prior experience in curriculum design
- Experience creating inclusive learning environments
- Excellent people skills and demonstrated skill in presenting
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Strong data analysis and technical skills; facility with CRM's and MS Office applications.
Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally acquired through completion of a master's degree in career development, higher education or a demonstrably relevant field and a minimum of three years of community partnership development or industry experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Experiential Learning Partnerships -
- Develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts; develop new and maintain ongoing engaged learning opportunities, and make appropriate referrals for students to apply to these opportunities.
- Serve as the first point of contact for the department for all things community engaged learning, that includes students, alumni, employers and community partners; lends assistance and provides information on all aspects of student services programs, office resources, policies, and procedures; screens inquiries and makes referrals to appropriate staff.
- Interacts with Academic Faculty to understand curriculum and help facilitate new engaged learning opportunities
- Work across the Oakland campus and the broader Northeastern network to foster and support campus wide experiential learning connections with community partners.
- Serve as a liaison to partner colleges and campus departments (such as multicultural centers, student activities, athletics and admissions) by building relationships with academic advisors & faculty, co-op colleagues and advocating for programs specific to the Oakland campus.
Career Advising & Programming -
- Provides individual and group advising for co-op preparation and career coaching developing resources supporting career education.
- Conceptualizes, designs, implements, and evaluates comprehensive, innovative career education programs and resources for students.
- Teaches career education/working in diverse communities courses each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings.
- Collaborates to ensure that the overall suite of programming, engaged opportunities, messaging and other resources are inclusive and accessible.
- Increases visibility and attendance for programs and services through promotion and marketing campaigns.
- Conducts relevant program assessment and benchmarking.
- Ensures accurate and timely data reporting and analysis for use in strategic planning.
Leadership -
- Hire, train, and supervise Peer Engaged Learning Advisors.
- Design, implement the operations and procedures of community-engaged teaching & research alongside, including major events such as our Publicly-Engaged Scholar-in-Residence series, partnership orientations and mixers.
- Manage budget for Career and Engaged Learning activities.
Department/Divisional Service, and Professional Development -
- Serves on department, division, and university committees. Represents the University at professional meetings and conferences.
- Assists with department activities and events such as networking events, and orientations.
- Participates in professional development and training activities including client issues roundtables, guest speaker lectures, employers and employment updates, and computer technology training
The expected hiring range is $73,600to $90,000. Within the expected hiring range, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. The expected hiring ranges are taken from the full salary ranges, which are reviewed each year and are subject to change.
