St. Catherine University seeks an innovative and student-centered Associate Provost for Adult Education and Online Learning to lead the strategic expansion, growth, and excellence of degree completion, and professional and graduate online academic programs.
Part of the Provost's leadership team, this position plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and overseeing workforce-aligned programs tailored to the needs of various populations of learners, ensuring that St. Kate's continues to provide high-quality, flexible, and accessible educational opportunities that are financially viable. The Associate Provost will report to the Provost and Senior Vice President and lead activities across academic and administrative units to drive success in adult education and online learning at St. Catherine University.
Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, St. Kate's is one of the largest private women's universities and among the most comprehensive Catholic universities in the U.S. The university is home to more than 3,500 students and offers access to 100 academic programs in associate's, bachelor's, master's, doctorate, and certificate programs. St. Kate's has 236 full-time faculty, 171 part-time faculty, and 363 staff members. The new Associate Provost will assume office as soon as possible.
Responsibilities Include:
Strategic Leadership & Program Development
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for high quality adult education and online program growth, ensuring alignment with the university's mission, values, and strategic goals.
- Lead the development, launch, and continuous improvement of workforce-aligned online, hybrid, and competency-based education programs that are tailored to adult learners, working professionals, and career focused students.
- Oversee market research and data-driven decision-making to assess program viability, enrollment trends, graduate employment, and other success metrics.
- Partner with Enrollment Management and Marketing to grow enrollment and expand brand visibility for online and adult programs through degree programs and alternative credentials.
- Represent the university in statewide and national conversations on adult education, online learning, and workforce-aligned higher education.
- Serve as an ambassador for St. Kate's by articulating the university's story and mission through adult and online programming to internal and external audiences.
Operations & Management
- Oversee administrative operations for adult and online programs, including budgeting, resource planning, and management of cross-functional teams.
- Provide oversight for academic policy development and administration and ensure adherence to policies and procedures that support and enhance adult and online course/program design, delivery, and academic quality.
- Provide leadership and supervision for staff supporting online and adult education, including instructional designers, program coordinators, and academic technologists.
- Ensure compliance of online and adult programs with accreditation standards, state authorization (NC-SARA), ADA accessibility laws, and federal distance education regulations.
- Lead efforts in educational technology integration, adopting innovative tools for adult and online learning.
- Drive a culture of continuous assessment and quality improvement, using analytics to refine adult and online student learning experiences and inform strategic decisions.
- Work across academic and administrative units to create cohesive adult learning pathways, including partnerships with community colleges, employers, and workforce development programs.
Student-Centered Success & Support
- Enhance services and resources tailored to adult and online students, including academic advising, career services, and student engagement initiatives that improve retention and completion rates.
- Advocate for policies that support equitable access, flexibility, and affordability for non-traditional learners.
- Ensure seamless adult and online student experiences from admission through graduation leading this work in conjunction with enrollment management, IT, and student services.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate adult and online student success, course quality, and engagement.
Faculty Development & Academic Excellence In coordination with the Teaching Hub Director & Academic Technology:
- Ensure training and resources for high-quality online and hybrid instruction are in place to support the delivery of adult and online programs.
- Establish standards for effective online teaching and learning, ensuring academic rigor, student engagement, and assessment integrity.
- Support faculty in implementing innovative digital pedagogy, instructional design best practices, and integration of academic technologies.
- Champion the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure accessible and inclusive learning experiences for all students.
Support for Academic Affairs Division
- Provide operational support across the Academic Affairs division.
- Manage program partnerships, including articulation agreements, online program sharing arrangements, partnering institutions, or other vendors.
- Provide support for grant development and management.
- Strengthen relationships with corporate, nonprofit, and government partners to expand educational access.
- In collaboration with deans, faculty, and department chairs, support efforts to identify new program opportunities and expand current offerings in high-demand fields.
Salary Range: $106,392-145,000

The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. St. Catherine reserves the right to modify or adjust compensation depending on University needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field (e.g., higher education leadership and innovation, instructional design, online learning, adult learning theory and education).
- Minimum 5-7 years of leadership experience in online education, academic program development, or adult learning.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and assess online and hybrid academic programs.
- Experience leading operational teams, implementing data-informed strategies, managing budgets, and financial planning and analysis.
- Deep understanding of best practices in online learning, faculty development, instructional design, and technology integration.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience serving adult learners, first-generation students, and diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated collaboration, communication, and team-building skills, with a track record of cross-departmental and external engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
- Experience with competency-based education, micro credentials, or alternative learning pathways.
- Knowledge of state authorization requirements, accreditation processes, and compliance regulations for distance education.
- Demonstrated success in securing grants, funding, or partnerships to support online and adult learning initiatives.
- Familiarity with data analytics and reporting tools to support student success and program performance.
